i don't know if this is the right place to post this, i'm new here, but it seems as good as any. I now have a copy of the classic rock special mag with cd,poster etc and mighty fine it is too. My only real gripe is the sycophantic nature of some of the articles, which seem to have been written by younger HM orientated types. I was disappointed with the slightly negative references to the 1st lp on Chiswick, which remains my favourite. As far as i'm concerned this lp totally sums up Motorhead better than any subsequent effort. To me Motorhead are a greasy, dirty biker rock'n'roll band, most certainly not heavy metal. i fully understand why they are now put in the metal bag what with the way music has gone and with lemmy being based in the US but as lem himself has stated on numerous occasions they are a rock'n'roll band, not HM. Some of the writers of the mag seem to think that only Motorhead understood what it meant to be dirty, bad ass rock'n'roll, this is, quite frankly, crap as there were a few other bands around then and now such as the Damned, the Stranglers, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts who were very much in the same tradition as Motorhead,ie kick ass rock'n'roll,if not always musically but certainly attitude wise. I find it preposterous to associate Motorhead with shite like Rush as one of the writers does as this god awful band represent the total opposite to what Motorhead stand for. I don't like metal per se, i thought most of the NWOBHM bands were pretty poor, i love heavy rock such as Sabbath, Zeppelin, Purple, Lizzy but i've always thought Motorhead were far closer to the raucous energy of the early punk bands and their precursors such as Pink Fairies, MC5, Hawkwind and the Stooges. On a more positive note, some of the photos in the mag are superb, i particularly like the one of Lem and Lucas Fox (where is he now?) and the interviews are brilliant. I fucking love Motorhead and it just slightly annoys me that the band are often misrepresented by being associated with 'metal' and bands they've got nothing in common with. I would always file Motorhead with Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran and Johnny Burnette and not overblown stuff like Van Halen,Scorpions etc. These are just my thoughts and i hope i aint offended any one out there in Motorhead land, yours, Joanjettfreak
