People are impressed by bass fretboard wanking in V. Wooten style. What a greaaaat player! Yes, he's very good, no doubt about that. But I'm more impressed by people like Cliff Williams or Dusty Hill. What they play is soooo easy, everyone can do it? Really? I never met a bass player so far who was able to do the same thing. They just THINK they can.
When I (try to) play AC/DC or ZZ Top I always end up with "dammit, these guys are GOOD!" in mind.

Talking about "complicated" songs - what Lemmy plays is somtimes ludicrously simple. Take "Don't Need Religion" as an example: The whole bass line is made out of six (six!) notes. You can learn this song in five minutes Add some distortion, catch the right rhythm (again very simple in this song) and you're done. Many other Motörhead songs are equally simple. But who cares? It's working, it's working perfectly. But calling this "complicated" is just wrong.

And drums? Mikkey is an exceptionally gifted drummer! But I prefer Philthy, too. It was exactly his dirty, bumpy and rumbling style that made the songs what they are. Mikkey is like a surgeon - every beat is a perfect cut. Impressive but somehow boring.

To each their own. I find Black Ice somewhat better than Stiff Upper Lip, but overall dull and nowhere near their true great albums.

Sorry, AC/DC to me is perhaps the most boring band in the world. I prefer Motorhead because they are more kick ass and straight foroward than AC/DC. I prefer Led Zeppelin because they are much more innovative than AC/DC. And I prefer Guns N' Roses to AC/DC because they have much more attitude. AC/DC is just the same boring ass thing over and over again.

I would not say DC have the same boring ass stuff over and over again, they changed alot when Bon died, just look at the crowd difference and they got more populer, especially when Back In Black came out. Zeppilin are a damn good band, so are Roses, id say that Jimmy, Slash and Angus share the same talent on the guitar (maybe Slash is a bit better). Yes Motorhead are more straight 4ward i agree on that one. Id have to say out of Roses, Zep and DC, DC are the most populer by far, there Lightning symbol is the most recognised music logo ever and there is a big size difference in crowds.

I know I'm ancient and set in my ways,but just from a writing stand point,Mr Page is in a different league IMHO

One thing both Motorhead and AC/DC have in common is that they are "Formula" bands.
They don't fix what isn't broke and they very rarely step outside of what they do best,

Never wasa Guns N Roses fan.

The thing about all these discussions is,they can be fun if everyone keeps their cool,but ultimately they don't ever settle the who's best arguments.

I think Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix are the ultimate in guitar players.
Others will completely disagree,that's how it is.
It's all pretty much just opinions.
My 40+ years as a musican doesn't make me right,it just gives an insight into how easy or technical someone's style is.
Technical equals nothing.
The whole is all that ever matters.

AC/DC,rocks.
Motorhead rocks Harder.
Zeppelin,rocks epicly.
Jimi rocked with pure,raw fire.

Not alot of people would say Slash is better than Jimmy, of course Jimmy and his famous double-guitar, i just think Roses was better back then than Zeppilin ever was

Well Zeppelin, Roses, and Motorhead are my 3 favorite bands. Like I said though AC/DC to me is just boring as hell.

well, i would say that ac/dc is alot similar to motorhead. people who are not so much into motorhead's music will allways say that lemmy made 100 albums and they all sound same. same thing with ac/dc, as someone above mentioned, they are formula bands, but again, i would say that perfection actually comes from that simplicity, so i don't need any epic solos, super fast drumming and stuff like that. motorhead is just perfect in the way it is and i'm just fine with it as long as they are giving to me that pure rock'n'roll which they produce for more than 30 years. so, lemmy, if you are ready to record another 100 albums that sound same, just do it, 'couse i can't wait!
