I always thought the Golden Years EP was recorded at the Lochem Pop festival, however, after seeing this I'm a bit confused. Was it recorded there or not? If not, then where?

Snatched from Collectors Guide:
As Motörhead were endlessly touring, Bronze released this four track 7" and 12" live EP as something of a stopgap whilst waiting for Ace of Spades to be delivered. Radio stations refused to play it so Bronze released a 2 track remixed version, containing Leaving here and Stone deaf forever , as a promo only. Meanwhile Holland and Germany put it out on 7" and 12" in a different sleeve as Lochem pop 80, a tie in with the festival of the same name the band were booked to play at.

From Motorheadoverkill.se
The recordings on this EP were made during the Bomber tour in 1979 but I have never seen any information about what gig it really was. Four songs were included on a 7" 33 rpm format as well as on a 12" 45 rpm. A very interesting question is if more songs were recorded at the time. I have never seen any live recordings that were claimed to be from the same concert. It was released in April in 1980 and was produced by Nicholas Raymonde.

The name of this Live EP is not a choice by Motorhead at the time but it was decided by Bronze. Lemmy has in retrospect said that it also proved to be very true, those years were golden years, but it was an odd choice for a title at the time. Motorhead wanted to call it "Flying Tonight".

The record climbed the charts but the radio would not play it. They said the vocals were too low mixed and that the sound was bad in general. That is why a special DJ promo release was made on 7" with only two songs included and with a new mix. This did not help, radio would not play it anyway.

This is the best answers I can dig up for you at this point, sorry for not being able to give you a straight answer on "when".

But this is really great EP. From all singles and Ep's this is the best for me. Only bad thing is why they never recorded a complete concert? Only 4 songs??? They sound great on it, I mean they are in really good shape. Only 4 songs is grrrr, to bad there is no full album.

Since it's released on Bronze I'd say that there's no complete recording of that gig/gigs. If there was one it would have been released at least five times by now...

At the time,(and still to do this day for me),we couldn't work out what the problem was as far as the vocals went.

"We",thought it was most likely do to the fact that Motorhead were getting bigger and biiger and the stations didn't want to play anything that was "Hard rock",on their bland stations.

I loved it when it was released, and has been mentioned here,I wish that a full concert wuold appear from the Golden Years sessions.

Where is this recorded then? I used to live in Lochem and am a little disappointed this is not recorded in Lochem.

I love the sound by the way. The bass is turned up pretty audible. I Love this tubeamp-distorted bass sound. smile (I wish the bass was this audible last 20 years)
