Did anyone here get the Lemmy Rickenbacker bass? I play guitar but I love Lemmy's sound and playing so I looked into how much the Lemmy bass is worth and they are worth a small fortune these days. Whoever bought one when they first came out is really lucky.

it wont help you to sound like lemmy. the most important detail in the chain of creating a sound are your HANDS! give lemmy a fender precision bass you still would recognize it`s lemmy playing this bass... smile

I know that I couldn't play like Lemmy. One of the reasons I would want one though is because it's a cool bass and it's unusual in some of it's specs compared to other ones. The Gibson has a more traditional sound but the Ricken(bastard) has it's own unique sound and vibe.
I play guitar but it would be cool to have a bass in my arsenal.
The closest thing I have to a bass is a vintage Danelectro 6 string bass (which interestingly comes somewhat close to Lemmy's sound). I bought it a few years ago when I got a new credit card. I have trouble with saving money, so the credit card was maxed out in about a week.
Hopefully Rickenbacker will release a new Lemmy signature bass in the near future. Rickenbacker guitars have a very narrow neck so I don't have anything by them because I have big hands and my fingers would always hit the strings beside the strings I was playing. Their basses have more space between the strings.

Rickenbacker won't release anything like the 4004LK, at least not in the near future. John Hall (CEO of Rickenbacker) said that more than once.
Lemmy was pretty p*ssed about Rickenbacker when he heard that they plan to make only such a small number of 4004LK basses. He said it's stupid not to give customers what they want.
But this Rickenbacker policy sucks big time, anyway. They keep the numbers low and the prices high. I love their instruments (I own several Ric basses and guitars), but the company just sucks mad

TC Ellis did a few recreations of the 4004LKs as both a bass and a six string guitar, it's not the original but he follows the small details very closely.

There is definitely demand for a re-issue or a new version, but Rickenbacker has a long waiting period if you place an order for one of their current models, so they're probably don't want to bother re-issuing them since they are already making so much money. It's funny how they don't seem to care about re-releasing other signature guitars as well.

I think the Lemmy bass is probably one of their more valuable guitars but they issued a Suzanna Hoffs guitar that has unique features that aren't on their standard models and because Rickenbaker doesn't want to release a similar guitar with those specs, the price of one of those has gone up quite a bit as well.
Perhaps they want people to know that their guitars can get quite valuable on the collectors market, which is part of their marketing strategy.

The Suzanna Hoffs (bangles) has 3 pickups. Two toaster pickups and a humbucker in the bridge position (a combination that isn't on their other guitars). There aren't that many Bangles fans any more but people are after them because of the pickups.

Thanks for letting me know about the TC Ellis Lemmy bass.

Is Lemmy using the Rickenbacker these days or the TC Ellis?
