Hey everyone.

Now this seems like a strange thing to do, but I told myself what the heck.

I´m a german film maker living in Berlin, Germany. And of course motörhead addict.
Last year I had the opportunity to go to Afghanistan to aid in the making of a small fundraising film for a german aid organization called "RobinAid". They try to operate, maintain and support the only hospital capable of undertaking child cardiac surgery in the whole country.
Ever since that and despite the obvious hazards I always wanted to go back to Kabul and try making a documentary about people, who still want to achive something in life. Despite more than 30 years of war they haven´t given up and that is something rare even in the western world.
Just try to imagine how life would be like if you had to worrie about getting killed while just shopping for groceries.

Recently I doug out this article about Kabuls first and for now only metal band called "District Unknown". Against all odds they seek solace in metal music and they play and perform in shielded underground stages. Three guys just founded a „School of Rock“ in Kabul and they also welcome girls that want to play Rock and Metal music.
What will be their fate when troops start to move out next year?
As you might imagine they need everything from guitar strings to amps.
„District Unknown“ has not written that many own songs and besides one from a video available on youtube I haven´t heard them play yet.
They might just be as good as a school band, but how would you play while beeing monitored by those fanatics all the time?

But I try and change that by going down to Kabul some time in August/September, do my research anyway. I will try to get in contact with the band and see if they like to be part of the documentary I am planing. I am not asking for money and this is no fundraising forum entry of any kind. I´m just looking for some guys willing to contribute by sending in some motörhead related stuff I could give as presents to the band. I´m thinking of original drum sticks, signed shirts, pleks … stuff like that. If I would know how, I´d try to write motörhead management or Lemmy himself … if any of you could assist in forwarding this request to the band and see if they like the idea I´d be most happy.

As proof of delivery I can of course provide picutures and film material.

Future dream: let them do a cover of our favourite motörhead songs and put one of those on the next album.

And just a side note to any of you never been to Kabul International Airport: there is this somewhat strange ad above the conveyor belt showing an old bearded guy with a pocket radio next to his ear. And above that it states „for the Rock ´n´Roll in all of us“

Think about it and let me know if anyone is willing to assist bold plans wink

Cheers

Christian

Sounds like a pretty good and interesting project to me, good luck with that!

When it comes to contacting the band, i can't really help unfortunately. But at least here's an idea: contact UDR-Music (their label), they might be able to help, and their contact's even located in Germany...

Again, good luck! smile

A friend of mine has Lemmy's cell phone number but it's a well guarded secret. Only people he considers friends have that number.
Going through the label is the best idea, I don't think lemmy would be too happy having a stranger telephone him.
