In 16 hours, I will finally see Motorhead live. Words can't describe it. I am sure you all know what I mean. They are playing at Darien Lake(Buffalo, NY), it's not a Mayhem Show for some reason. I hope because it's not a Mayhem Show that they get a longer set time. However, I will be happy no matter what.

I plan on rolling down the windows and cranking the radio up to full blast as I drive to the show, playing all my favorite Motorhead tunes. I plan on forgetting the world exists today.

I hope they are not the opening act. I feel that would be highly disrespectful.

Enjoy it, man!
I really hope the audience in the US is a little bit more civilized than it usually is in Europe. Motörhead "fans" here are amongst the worst I see in concerts frown

I hope you do get the full Motorhead show tonight. There's nothing like seeing them for the first time. I finally got to see them last March. Blew me away! Give us a review when you get a chance afterwards.

Thanks everyone for the support and the pump up! Going to be a good time indeed!!!!

Well, I am assuming that most of the crowd will be there to see slipknot, as that is what is being promoted heavily on the stations. Not even mention of Motorhead. Kind of pisses me off.

The date was original booked as Mayhem Fest. A week after I bought my tickets, Mayhem Dropped the dated for some reason. Now its being promoted by the local Rock radio station as Slipknot, Slayer, Anthrax, and our boy's Motorhead. So I hope that means they get to add a few extra songs to the set.

@ Bigcrazewolf, my plans were deff to go to the Aug 4th show but ran into some money issues lol. Had an unexpected car repair pop up! I had to sell my tickets, which was a pain the ass too be honest. Live Nation is a cunt to deal with. Sucksssssssssssssssss. I am in Buffalo, ny. Yeah, if Motorhead ever comes back to the northeast, we should deff hit up a show!

Wow. Wow. Wow.

I was completely blown away by Motorhead.

Anthrax opened the show to what appeared to be a seating area 40% filled. What a bummer for those guys. I will say, they came out hard and HAD A TON of energy. I respect that, I am sure it's hard to get "up" for a show when you're first on and playing to empty seats and people in line for beer. They made my girlfriend a fan just from how they attacked the gig.

Anthrax finishes up. Road crew comes on stage and pulls off the massive anthrax logo curtain. Now appearing is the MOTORHEAD logo. I swear, just seeing that logo live gave me chills.

The venue is about 75% full now. It's quite, I could feel the energy in the air, I could smell it. Goose bumps just knowing what is to come. The crew finishes setting up, now before me in all its glory is M-D's Drum kit, phils massive stack, and lemmy's iconic marshall amps.

You here phil shred a quick chord backstage. You then here Lemmy's bass make a fucking growl. I went nuts. Next, you here the bomber air raid siren go off. I lost it! They let the siren play for at least a good 12 minutes before even coming on stage.
The band finally appears, taking there spots for the night, Lemmy struts up to the mic and screams BOMBEEEEEEEEEEER! It was fucking EPIC. I had a tear of joy, as silly as it sounds. I waited 18yrs to experience this.

They were the LOUDEST band there. Hands Down. The plastic bleachers were vibrating so hard, if you put your phone on it, it would shake off! Felt like they were kicking my in the chest. Loved it.

Set list:
1. Bomber
2. Damage Case
3. I know how to die
4. Stay clean
Phil and lemmy asked the crowed to get louder and if we wanted it louder. They turned up the juice and lemmy dedicated the next song to use and himself.
5. Over the top
6. The chase is better than the catch
After the song all 3 said lets all have a drink with our friends here. They lifted the glasses for a cheers and so did everyone who had a drink. Was awesome.
7. The one to sing the blues. The drum solo was killer. Really outstanding!
8. Going to Brazil. lemmy dedicated it to everyone on the crew who is from there and anyone in Buffalo who might be lol.
9. Killed by death
10. Ace of spades. Lemmy says up next is our fuckin theme song.
11. overkill. lemmy introduced the band to the crowd before the song and did his iconic don't forget us. We are Motorhead and we play rock N fuckin Roll. They played overkill 3 times straight. Lemmy also did his machine gun bass move as if he was shooting us.

After the song, they all come to front stage, Lemmy takes off the bass raises it and punches it, sets it down and turns up the amps. They take a bow to a standing applause.

The end. Best time ever. I hope to see them again soon.

okay, and now after you've seen THIS show, you've seen them ALL grin
It's the same every time, including Lemmys "jokes", the "louder" thing, the "cheers" thing. At least they've stopped the "loudest crowd" thing. And no song from APD, so you've also got away from Lems "this song was written before you wre born"-joke. Yaaaaawn wink

But hey, glad you liked it! A Motörhead show is a great thing, no doubt about that!

You made me remember when I first saw them.
It was pretty much the same sensations as you described. I couldn't hold my tears for the whole first song.

Great review!

Glad you liked it. I am a Motorhead fan for life....Now, while MH.shows in 2012may not be like they were in the 80s and 90s, I simply REFUSE to give another dollar to George Thorogood....a guy who I used to be a damn near superfan of.
Get this: Thorogood plays 13(!!) songs total for his headlinimg shows. And he drags each song out as long as he can to not go a minute over 90 minutes...GOD FORBID.
its become so obvious that all he cares about is cashing his royalty checks....and his website is a joke. He also wont give his fans the time of day if he sees them in public.
I am proud to be a Motorhead fan.

Cool Ryan... congrats for your first show. I will always remember mine in 1989 ... first gig in South America...
but I must say... I m a little bit disappointed... 11 songs? I think this will be the standard for now on...
cheers

When I first saw them in '82 I was stunned by how loud it was, I was leaning on the railing in front of the stage. Because I was so close my ears were distorting and I couldn't tell what songs they were playing most of the time. All I could hear clearly were the drums and the talking between songs. Although the show was somewhat a disaster because Lemmy had arm problems, it ended up being one of the most memorable shows I went to. Fortunately they don't play that loud any more and you can enjoy the music. The turn up the volume thing originates from the early days of the band. In 1982 Lemmy said something like "turn the sound up. I want to hurt these people."

Last time that I saw them was last year and I think they played 21 songs, headlining. For the festival shows people expect to hear the classics so there may be 1 surprise song here and there but because they have a shorter amount of time to play, there are still many classics that there is not enough time for.

Now for the Motorhead hearing test, you should let us know how long your ears were/are ringing smile

I caught a glimpse of the new Motorhead backdrop in the boobies video. It looks like a new design.

I hate festval shows, but opportunities to see the band at this point are limited... I Would rather hear 2 more songs in a 50 minute set rather than a drum solo (albeit a great solo)... but Motörhead can do what they want.

The show itself was alright, but with 20 albums being condensed to 11 songs, it was hard to get too excited. This time, like the first time I saw them as an opening band 31 years ago, I left hoping I will get the chance to see them as a headliner...

I'm not a huge fan of the drum solo / guitar solo but it gives the people not doing the solo a chance to rest for a few minutes. I'd love to see a Lemmy solo because I really love his unconventional way of playing, but I'm pretty sure that's unlikely to happen. I was wondering if Lemmy ever did a bass solo segment during the live shows. I don't recall ever hearing one even on the bootlegs.

With their new found popularity, I think they are more famous now than most of the bands they are opening for. I don't want to put them down but at this moment I don't think that Slayer is as popular as Motorhead. Most of those bands wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for Motorhead.

Motörhead is both more infamous and more famous than Slayer... but half the people who wear their t-shirts can't name 10 songs they do. They are, and never were all that popular hear in the states. Lemmy (as a cartoon character), the logo, and the god joke, are why they are known here... not for their body of work.

Slayer is way more popular than Motörhead are on this side of the pond. The reaction to Motörhead at the show was respectful and curious.... the reaction to Slayer (and Slipknot) was rabid.

I own quite a few "Metal shirts" of bands I listen to all the time and I STILL wouldn't be able to name 10 songs. That's just due to the number of bands I like, especially when they are "younger" bands.
It's an entirely different story for the bands I grew up with, some decades ago.

"Knowing the name of their songs" is not an indicator whether someone likes the music or not. But you're certainly right that everything with the Motörhead writing on it became some kind of "fashion item". Fine, hope the band makes some money out of it...

Congrats on the first show. I'm glad you've liked it. I'll catch them live for the third time this December in Slovenia. Hopefully everything will go well and as planned because I'll need to run away from the workplace to see the show (it's Monday).
