i guess that they are a good money spinner. not sure who gets the bags of loot! band or management etc? it's a shame but it does put the band in a bad light i think. it should be a really cool thing but instead it seems like a very expensive rip off.

Some marketing geek is trying to make them look more like 'Kisshead'...

The reason you keep seeing stuff like this, wine, vodka, overpriced boxsets, etc... is cause of people like us. The marketing money men know that Motorhead have a strong and dedicated fanbase, and will always try and exploit that. It's happening with more and more bands now. I go on an AC/DC forum as well, and you should see the shit Sony are throwing at the fans. Makes motorhead stuff look small fry.

Back in the Ramones day, all they released was simple bootlegs for like £5 and they were really good and raw. Hardly a new t-shirt for £5 too. Same with Motorhead till '86. Now this super-marketing all bands keep bringing top dollar re-packagings and branded useless stuff, I think we buying too much, if we show demand there will always be exploitation. As to Volume 2, I'll wait for the video to go half price or second hand (+- £5) and when I buy I'll rip the audio on to MP3 so I can listen to it in my car. And then of course buy the new album next year.

I bought that shit for the Brixton show. Im flying in from Sweden just to se that gig so i thought i might as well buy the full package. It will probably be worth it as i dont have to queue outside the venue for 12 fuckin ours and freeze my balls off to get front row. I did that last year in december in Stockholm and that sucked. The show was great though and it was totally worth freezing my balls off.

Mate the queue at Brixton is something like 20 minutes and if you work your way through you get to the front row, like we did in 2010 smile

The ticket prices have gone up too recently. I first see the band in 2004 for £19.50, now this years ticket cost me £27.00. I'm not complaining, just saying!

Yeah it did. As I said before, I saw it on a magazine in 2001/2 and it was £18. But also we have to consider that renting venues is also more expensive on these days. Still worth it for Motorhead, always.

Everythings gone up though.I had a season ticket for Leeds United for around 15 years or so (94-09),went to most away games-couldn't wait til my lad was old enough to take him regularly, and now i can't afford it.About £47 for 1 game for both of us plus £40 in petrol(i live about 150 miles away) plus food etc-a fucking fortune!!!
But thats life eh-while every fucker pays these prices nothing will come down

I'm tempted but it does not say that you'll get to meet the band so most likely just be skip the queue and get the added extras.

I dunno -i think i disagree. If you cant be arsed to wait about for hours in the cold i dont think its a bad thing(i dont think i'd pay it myself mind you).Put it this way-a soundcheck is an experience you won't forget-yes its better to be invited in ,but at the end of the day if you're willing to pay mate, who gives a fuck!! i certainly don't care-its your choice .
If you look at how much Motorhead stuff goes for on ebay maybe its better to spend it on something like this than another overpriced record/shirt/programme etc etc.As the saying goes-the choice is yours

You Belong To The City (Glenn Frey)

The sun goes down, the night rolls in
You can feel it starting all over again
The moon comes up and the music calls
You're gettin' tired of starin' at the same four walls

You're out of your room and down on the street
Movin' through the crowd and the midnight heat
The traffic crawls, the sirens scream
You look at the faces, it's just like a dream
Nobody knows where you're goin'
Nobody cares where you've been

'Cause you belong to the city
You belong to the night
Livin' in a river of darkness
Beneath the neon lights

You were born in the city
Concrete under your feet
It's in your moves, it's in your blood
You're a man of the streets

When you said goodbye, you were on the run
Tryin' to get away from the things you've done
Now you're back again, and you're feeling strange
So much has happened, but nothing has changed
You still don't know where you're goin'
You're still just a face in the crowd

You belong to the city
You belong to the night
Livin' in a river of darkness
Beneath the neon lights

You were born in the city
Concrete under your feet
It's in your blood, it's in your moves
You're a man of the street

You can feel it, you can taste it
You can see it, you can face it
You can hear it, hey, you're getting near it, hey
You wanna make it, cause you can take it
You belong to the city, you belong to the night
You belong to the city, you belong to the night
You belong, you belong

I don't understand the fuss about the availability of a VIP package. People are free to decide whether or not to buy it....ditto box sets, DVDs, T-Shirts etc.

Neither do I complain about a band wanting to make more money. They are professional musicians, of course they want to earn a comfortable living.

spot on ! motorhead are the only thing thats never let me
down and the only constant in my life for over 30 years
i'd like to think that i'd do everthing to support them
as they've picked me up every time i've been put on my
arse!
i'd never illegally download any motorhead stuff ,i always buy everything
because that would feel like i was taking money out of thier pockets .
I do understand everyones views for and against but its personal choice surely lads ?

I'm taking my son to his first Motorhead concert next month and I'm thinking of buying 2 VIP packages.

Has anyone bought one of these? Is it something that is collected from the venue on the day of the show?

The website doesn't give this info.

Thanks for the reply. Hope they give you the time soon.

Thinking of getting ours because this will be my sons first Motorhead concert and Lemmy is one of his main reasons he plays bass. Can't wait for what is going to be a great night.

i dunno if this q is stupid but whatever. im hitting for ljubljana show in december and it seems ill have enough money for this but future beat page says
Exclusive access to the Motorhead soundcheck
Early entry into the venue
Collectable 8x10 photo (autographed, limited, numbered)
Official Motorheadbanger bandana
Commemorative soundcheck laminate
Limited availability

so does it guarantee meet and greet with band? im asking because for other artist on their page it says if package includes meet and greet and picture with band?

also states the we are NOT allowed to take photo`s or record souncheck also states that the band will not come down and sign any items or pose for photo`s and also we are NOT allowed to shout out for any song`s........after sound check will be taken back out of venue to be put in front of the cue for early entry for the show..............

I dont understand why they have to throw us out of the venue after the soundcheck. And the signed photo is gonna get totally destoyed during the show.

Because the support bands will be sound checking after Motorhead. Anthrax will probably be doing a similar VIP package. So the fans who have paid to see them will not be priviledged to see Anthrax soundcheck for free. It sounds like your paying for very little you'll get stuff signed if you hang around for the band arriving. Take something to put your photo in, to stop it getting wrecked.

the VIP upgrade is just for the soundcheck and nothing more as is stated withing the package details.......if the band did sign stuff and / or posed for photo`s then that would simply be a bonus.......

i have gone for this purely for the soundcheck as i have never seen MOTORHEAD soundcheck in all the years i have been in to them................

A privilege. Seeing that soundcheck is something every big fan should do sometime. $100 to guarantee you get to experience that is well worth it.

I heard them playing Sabbath's Children of the Grave Thin Lizzy's Still in Love With You. The whole of 'Rosalie' which has been played live in the past. Cool to hear them knocking out these toons. A special treat for the VIP guys..

It is. If they allowed filming half the fun would go out of soundcheck.

Remember that none of this is obligatory, so $100 or not, I for one am grateful I legally attended soundcheck (no bribes or anything like that).

I went to the newcastle one, there were 5 of us. Personally, i'd say it was worth the money, the signed 10x8 pic is decent, the bandana is good quality. I used to go to film conventions and a signed 10x8 from 1 person was minimum 15, sometimes 20 quid. even people selling them without meeting the people who'd signed them charged that.

There was a bit of hanging around for it to start. the 20-30 seconds of very high pitched feedback wasnt fun, wasnt too bothered though. the banter between the band and crew was good, pretty funny at times. i took a mate for his 1st motorhead experience and thought it was great. they played Rosalie in full, and as the sound was good, that was it. I heard Lemmy comment on the quality of the sound and he was happy with it after that one. there was some further discussion on stage that we couldnt hear.

Mikkey came over for a chat for a bit afterwards which was good, and a bit unexpected given what is advertised.

we also got in to the venue at 6 rather than 7 but it was only the bar open (couldnt get the merch early). the pints were cheaper for that hour. I think this sort of thing will be dependent on the venue though

so all in all it was good. the soundcheck was only for motorhead though incase people think it might be for all 3.

it was followed by an awesome gig too. top notch

i did it at the first gig WOLVERHAMPTON and thought that it was worth the money......

MIKKEY was very friendly and came to the front of stage after soundcheck for a chat..........

the hole band signed a couple of items for me.....which was a added bonus for the soundcheck package......

i would do this again just for the soundcheck experience.........

Here's a comment left at Lemmy's Facebook page from a fan who attended the Manchester gig. Kinda self-explanatory:

"I went to the one in Manchester and felt sorta ripped off. Don't get me wrong, it was as cool as fuck to see the stuff nobody usually ever gets to see, and then to speak to Mikkey and Phil for a bit too, and having Lemmy say hi from a bit back.

"But we were only allowed in for 20 mins or something like that. I thought we were going to get to see the full soundcheck, Anthrax and the lot.

Awesome show though"

I'm gonna be attending at Brixton Academy this Saturday (17th), by the way. And yeah, I signed up for this VIP soundcheck package, figuring that at least I'll get something a bit 'extra' than from the other gigs I've attended.

I'm a bit ambivalent about the 'value for money' question going by what I've heard so far, but oh well, whatever happens I'll just chalk it down to experience.

As far as i know, Anthrax also have "VIP"-tickets for the soundcheck and of course they are selling 'em on their own...

I think the Word VIP sucks. You are not a Very Important Person only because you are paying a lot of bucks for attending Soundcheck.

Very true. So many words to use and they still use the old nightclub cliche 'VIP'. 'Fun Pass' would me more adequate smile

That's true, but Brotherhood of Man was played only as an instrumental song by Phil and Mikkey.

Hello

So, I am after the Berlin concert and soundcheck. You have asked about vip package, so my advice is: fans: do not buy it, management: do not sell it, but if you decide to sell it, do not use words like vip, ok? 'Entrance to the soundcheck' would be enough.

Why not buying it? IMHO it is just not worth 107usd and there are better ways to spend that amount of money. But I was there and: you receive a bandana (looks good), red VIP badge which gives nothing (I still do not understand why they give it) and the photo of band - signed by P&M. Soundcheck - it was just a more or less typical soundcheck. First M spend some time with his drums, then came P and together they played 'Another brick in the wall' and 'Money for nothing', and then came L, they played together about 2 minutes, L said that it is ok for him and he disappeared. M stayed for a short chat and it was over.

To be honest I have felt that many people were surprised and/or disappointed, I believe because of expectations for meeting the band, taking photos etc. That is the reason why it shouldn't be called VIP package, clear?

Concert was quite good - it is diffcult to compare Motorhead and Anthrax, but the boys from Anthrax showed much more energy. Maybe Motorhead is a bit tired of a long tour - and of course age is not their advantage. But when you compare them to Deep Purple you must say that Deep Purple concerts are technically better - and Ian Gillan is also 67!
'To se ne vrati' as people in Czech Rep say - we are in 2012, not in '80 or '90.

I did over 1000km just to be in Berlin for that concert, so it was a nice adventure after all. But I had a almost sleepless night to catch flight to Berlin and now is a second one: I write it at 3am at the airport waiting for early morning flight to home, so I am sorry for my English and possible errors. Who knows when I will be able to post it, we will see.

PS: I just realized why it is called VIP. Perhaps for the band people who decide to buy it and they want to take a photos and chat are very irritating persons smile

Hey Myusername...
I am sorry you feel disappointed, but I am so glad that you enjoyed a great Motorhead gig.

It does sound like a rip-off.
I am old enough to remember when in the late 70's, early 1980's, if you hung around early enough, you would get pulled into the soundcheck for free and have a drink with the band.
It happened to me at The Heavy Metal Barn Dance July 1980... I will never forget that... and a few other lesser occasions.

I find the vip a little strange also, when I first see motorhead bomber tour "west runton cromer" the pub was on the grounds of the venue lemmy came in played fruit machine people just looked said hi and carried on drinking.

Then Eddie come in same story, was like this on bomber, ace of spades,Iron fist,Another perfect day tour.

Now you have to pay to be in the same room lol.

I don't know what you people are moaning about tbh. It is indeed clear that the old days are over, so why complain about efforts to at least somewhat mitigate this?

As for the things you didn't get, you should have paid attention when you signed up / paid.

Also, surprises can happen, as those going to Bern tonight know. wink

Soundcheck - it was just a more or less typical soundcheck. First M spend some time with his drums, then came P and together they played 'Another brick in the wall' and 'Money for nothing', and then came L, they played together about 2 minutes, L said that it is ok for him and he disappeared. M stayed for a short chat and it was over.

so was your photo only signed mikkey & phil then and not LEMMY ???.........

mine was fully signed................

Skynner, care to elaborate on that? Now that the Bern gig is over? What did we miss?

Well, the official story anyway is that as there "was no sound check", which I suppose means it would've been logistically too complicated to admit fans as there were five bands on the bill tonight, so no sound check admittance.
Instead, we got to stand stage right (on stage) during the entire Motorhead set. It was still a no pics, no drinks, etc. affair, but a much better deal IMO.
This proves to me again what great people the band and Singerman are. No lame "sorry" + refund, but a better alternative!
Great set (again) and many a sign of acknowledgment from the band.
So I remain in the opinion that $100 is not much at all for random strangers to be allowed this close to the band, something normally reserved for only the most diehard fans.
I'm grateful because I know Lemmy, Phil and Mikkey work very hard to put the music, and us fans, before the business.

Thanks Skynner.... great account, and great night as usual.

You are spot on when you say that the band put the music and the fans first. Always have, always will.

i would definitely contact them! A (similar)-ish thing happened to me when i bought a signed book from the states - the artist had only written his first name (Todd) - when i got in touch with the publisher , they paid to have the book returned and sent a fully signed one back out.

as much as everyone likes Mikkey and Phil - Motorhead is a one man band!
