The way I can see it being difficult to play Ac/Dc stuff on bass, is that it could become repetetive. I admit that when I was playing bass, I found it hardest to keep it ging when I had to hit the same note over and over. Maybe that is the skill.

It is not difficult because he sit on the root note 99% of the time. The technique is all in keeping a solid tempo for the simplest bass line you can imagine. It sounds great but it is not hard. I could not do it as well as him, because I have not been playing every night for 30+ years. I would find it a challenge to play the same note continuously and in time due to repetetiveness .

And no, I am not saying I am better than Cliff. His recorded output is basic and with little creativity is all I am saying.

I can't believe I have gotten into an arguement over Cliff Williams. The man is a good bass player, no doubt, but there is no evidence of him ever doing more than the most basic job of a bassist. Almost zero creativity but fits AC/DC well.

People get way too hung up on how complicated music is to play. Some of the best rock and pop songs of all time have consisted of just a few chords or have been based around a simple riff. Virtuosity is of course to be admired but it must be kept within the context of the song, otherwise you lose touch with the listener. John Entwhistle and Michael Schenker are guys who were great at this, but many more have descended into meaningless fretboard masturbation.

He does open up on a few songs, Gone Shooting is a good example. Cliff keeps it simple most of the time and pegs the root note but that's what the songs require.

Ian Hill of Judas Priest is another guy whose approach to bass playing means filling out the bottom end. But he can do the jazzy chops if he wants to.

Why is there so much chatter in the News section? This section is reserved for Motorhead news. It's pretty annoying seeing new posts in the news section and finding out that it's just a bunch of useless conversation about AC/DC.

It's a good debate but, yes, the location is bizarre.

Don't Angus and Malcolm write all of the music for AC/DC? If so, they are the ones that are coming up with the extremely basic bass and drum parts.
