Excellent choice Toast!

I went to see "Rainbow Bridge" when it came out.
The end of the love generation dream was just hitting home.

Wow, you're older than I thought Nigel! shocked

Pretty awful film i.m.o. though the concert footage from the volcano is good (thank God for DVD you can skip right to it) though the sound quality is not the best.

I have the two shows on CD too. It would have been great if the entire concerts had been put out as a film on their own instead of all that hippy rambling nonsense with just a handful of Jimi's songs from the performances making it into the cut.

Jimi looks and plays great during the concert footage, but boy is he off his head when talking during the film! crazy crazy whistle

54 this year Toast smile

Agreed it was the same with the Isle of Wight recordings.
If you watch the footage you can see jimi really struggling at times to carry on.

The Isle of Wight gig was spoilt by a lot of technical problems with the sound wasn't it. I find it painful to watch in parts as you can see Jimi's unhappy about it all as he grimaces through a huge portion of the set, battling to control his sound. This was a gig where he really couldn't get control of his feedback that he usually made into his own artform.

I wish the Hendrix family would get there act together and release some decent DVDS of some of Jimi's live gigs. I would so love to see the Albert hall gig in full. The audio from that gig is one of my most treasured CDs.

Absolutely Toast!

But from the Isle of Wight,"All Along The Watchtower" was brilliant.
The fact that he was fighting it just made it all happen.

Live albums,it's a tough choice...
"Band Of Gypsies" would probably be my choice.

I remember the Sunday Express on one of it's free CD give aways put out the Albert hall stuff.
A ten track CD.
I think the Hendrix estate was unaware until the last minute and demanded all the papers be recalled.
Luckily I got mine smile

Band of Gypsys is great and also the 2cd live at the Fillmore east discs. I love the almost 13 minute version of Stone free on disc 1 of that set. The awesome thing about Jimi was that he just loved to Jam and mess around with the structure of the songs depending how he felt on the night. Few musicians dare to, or indeed have the ability to risk doing that (not to the extent Jimi did anyway) and so end up playing it safe. The sounds he managed to squeeze out of that guitar are still as amazing today especially when you consider he only had a couple of peddles to play with.

As much as it pains me to say it, Motorhead fall into that 'safe' trap. As much as I love to see them, they really don't shake things up that much. You can go to Head gig one year and you know it's gonna be pretty damn similar to the last one you went to. With Jimi, every concert seems very different. I'd love to have seen him live, but then again, I'd be a lot older or dead now.

Didn't realise they'd given the Albert hall gig out as a freebie! Sound quality any good? I have the version put out as 2cds by Spanish Castle Magic records. The sound is very good and it has the full concert plus the sound check (19 tracks in all) Well worth getting if you don't have it already.
