Ballbreaker was last time i went to see them live, great memories but not inspired to go see them now. Someone got me Black Ice, and I can truly say i've never played the dam thing, mayve i should
Don't break your neck mate. It's got some decent enough songs but there are several things that let the album down badly for me.
The lyrics. I know the lyrics have been ropey ever since Angus and Malcolm took the pen off Brian, but on BI they are atrocious in places
The solos. Too many songs don't even have one, and those that do they sound too restrained. Angus is all about letting rip on the solos and on BI he just never quite does.
The riffs. There is a sad lack of Malcolm's trademark AC/DC riffage here. Too often they resort to those stop/start riffs that are okay every now and the, but are way over used on BI.
The songs themselves. 15 of them is way too many, especially when you could easily take 5 or more away as filler. Also there are a few numbers on here that just don't really sound like AC/DC numbers and, whilst decent enough on their own, just stand out for the wrong reasons on the album.
The title track. May seem petty, but BI is arguably the worst song on the album. it's just a few minutes of nonsense. AC/DC are like Motorhead in that they write really strong /memorable title tracks. I had this issue with The razors Edge, but that made some sense live. BI the song is a dog on the album and is an even bigger one live.
On a plus note, the production is very good (if a little digital sounding) and Brian sounds the best he has for years. For me it isn't their worst album, but it's a very long way from even their best also ran.
