"Nazi Germany is my subject; I'm an expert, especially on the Waffen SS. I could tell you some weird stuff. Bad guys are always more interesting." (1991)

"People are weird, aren't they? They'll say anything. You should never, ever listen about anybody from anybody else except themselves, 'cos you don't know. People will say any fuckin' thing. They say that I was a Nazi. It's really weird. There are very few people on Earth less Nazi than me. I've got three girlfriends in LA and they're all black. If they can get along with what I've got in my house, you ain't got nothing to talk about at all. My manager's half Jewish and half Italian, so that takes care of that. There's no way that someone who writes a song like 1916 is a Nazi" (1996)

"No I'm not a Nazi. I have two black girlfriends in this city, so I must be the worst Nazi you ever came across. Half my Jewish friends and black friends can go to my apartment and not be bothered by it. What's the problem with the Nazi thing? The Nazis are gone. Gone. The only reason they ever made it was Hitler. The day after he shot himself they sued for peace. It was just him. Nothing else. There wasn't an ideology that lasts for a thousand years, as has been proved. People have tried to start it up again all over the world and it's not worked" (2000)

" I'll explain it in an unusual way for you, right? An SS honour dagger, if you could find one these days, is worth $200,000. This is not your material that skinheads would buy, right? This is doctors and dentists. It is now antique-material from an age that has gone by and will never rise again, because the whole thing behind the Nazi party is that without Hitler there is nothing. I am the furthest thing from a Nazi you could imagine. I have no racial prejudice whatsoever. Show up at a Nuremberg rally, and I don't think Hitler would be shaking my hand"

"Another thing people don't understand is my collection of Nazi memorabilia, which really kicked in when I moved here (America). World war 2 artifacts have been around ever since I can remember-after all, I was born the year the war ended, and people were always bringing home souvenirs and shit. I had one dagger when I came over here, and two medals, maybe a flag and an iron cross, and that is all. And like with any hobby, the more you get into it the more interesting it gets, if it has any depth to it. So now I have a huge collection of stuff from wartime Germany-daggers, medals, flags, you name it. I like having all this stuff around because it's a reminder of what happened, and that it's in the past (for the most part-Nazism still exists, but at the margins). I don't understand people who believe that if you ignore something, it'll go away. That's completely wrong - If it's ignored, it gathers strength."

"Listen do I look like a bleedin' Nazi? If Hitler saw me like this he'd lock me away immediately. If Hitler used to lock up comedians for cracking the wrong joke what do you think he'd do with me? He'd order me straight into a concentration camp. If anyone gets uptight about the badges I wear then it's their problem. At home I've got a real Swastika flag on the wall. I've also got a Lenin flag, but I'm no communist. I've got a Brazilian flag, but I don't even drink coffee. I've also got an old Imperial German flag, but I haven't got one of those moustaches that are twisted and waxed have I? I'm not into their ideologies, I just think their flags look really great."

Motorhead's frontman Lemmy defends his Nazi collectibles in an upcoming issue of Q magazine by stating "I have two black girlfriends in this city [L.A.], so I must be the worst Nazi you ever came across. Half of my Jewish friends and black friends can go in my apartment and not be bothered [by the collection.]." Lemmy was responding to Q reader Stuart Barstow's question regarding Lemmy's Nazi collection. To make matters worse, Lemmy then denied the Holocaust resulted in the death of six million Jewish people. "There are photographs, but anyone can make photographs. You can fake anything. I think half of it's true and half of it isn't," he said.

"Look at the model airplane industry-they won't put a swastika on the model Messerschmitt 109 and that was the national insignia of Germany at the time. So does that mean that in the future, there will be no white stars on the side of a fucking Mustang kit because somebody in the planning room believes it's a symbol of American imperislism? Are any Jews less dead because they won't allow a swastika on a model airplane? No! And let's not even get into what so-called Americans did to the real Americans-the Indians. As you can probably tell, I've had my share of arguments over all this. Apparantly people don't like the truth, but I do like it; I like it because it upsets a lot of people. If you show them enough times that their arguments are bullshit, then maybe just once, one of them will say, 'Oh! wait a minute - I was wrong.' I live for that happening. Rare, I assure you."

"I don't only collect Nazi stuff, I collect objects from all the 'axis countries.' Also from countries who aren't even mentioned anymore as former part of the axis. Like Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland, Hungary. OK, in the end, they all said, 'We're no Nazis' when they saw that the Germans were losing it. But five years before that, they went, 'Yeah!'"

When asked where he gets the objects he collects, Lemmy replied, "The USA is a great place for collecting that shit, 'cause the GIs took everything back to America. They took fucking warehouses full of uniforms, Mercedes staff cars. One guy shipped a Focke Wulf 190 fighter home in pieces and rebuilt it in America. Now he owns the only fucking FW 190 in the world. I used to buy a couple of things in Germany, but now you can't take anymore knifes or things back home in a plane. And it's become more relaxed to buy stuff like that [in Germany]. There's five or six stores in Hamburg especially. They're advertising it. What's the point, anyway? It's not a nationalistic kind of thing, I mean, what the fuck you're gonna do? Pretend it never happened? There's airplane model kits of Messerschmidt 109 fighters. Shouldn't you touch them?"

On the subject of whether people should wear uniforms, Lemmy stated, "I'll tell you something about history. From the beginning of time, the bad guys always had the best uniforms. Napoleon, the Confederates, the Nazis. They all had killer uniforms. I mean, the SS uniform is fucking brilliant! They were the rock stars of that time. What you're gonna do? They just look good. Don't tell me, I'm a Nazi 'cause I have uniforms. In 1967 I had my first black girlfriend and a lot of more ever since then. I just don't understand racism, I never thought it was an option."
