I have a friend who was from Canada but ended up living in the USA illegally. She's a great person and a friend of Lemmys. She was told she had to leave the US and had to do paperwork and wait for a certain amount of years before she could re-enter the US.
From what I know about US medical costs, they can be astronomical. People lose their houses to pay their medical bills sometimes, so in that respect I think Philthy did the right thing (to go to a country where they provide cheap or free health care.) In my opinion, every country should have free medical care (it's important for their citizens to be in good health), but I don't want to talk about politics.
In one example I knew a writer who had books on the bestseller list. About 10 years ago he developed problems with his breathing and had to be on oxygen permanently. Before he died he was completely broke and they had to do a fundraiser to get money just to have him buried. It's sad to hear about.
